Non-renewal of various route permits causes loss of crores to Transport Deptt
11/15/2020 10:51:01 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Nov 13: The failure of the Transport Department to devise mechanism to control over the plying of passenger vehicles without renewal of route permits has caused loss of crores to the department.
Sources in the department told Early Times that non-renewal of All India, All Jammu and Kashmir route permits of passenger vehicles, district route permits and authorization for National Permit for prolonged periods resulted in non-recovery of renewal fee to the tune of crores.
They further said that the around 50% of All India/ All J&K route permits of vehicles other than goods carriages allotted upto 2018 by the Transport Department have not been renewed for long periods and thereby it has been observed that there is every possibility that these vehicles might be plying without the valid permits.
They further said that according to the import record of Toll Post Lakhanpur, it was observed that thousands of such vehicles had crossed the borders of the State without renewing their permits, which indicates that vehicles are running. This malpractice has been going on due to absence of control mechanism to check crossing of State Borders/ plying on all J&K routes, they added.
Astonishingly despite issuance of notices to such permit holders to acquire renewal and constitution of checking squads to organize special drive against the violation/ defaulters, the illegal practice is still going on, they alleged. Despite repeated attempts to contact the official of the Transport Department, the concerned could not be available for his comments.
