89 candidates in Bandipora, 168 in fray from Baramulla

BARAMULLA, Nov 17: Almost 168 candidates in fray for DDC/Panchayat by-elections that are scheduled to be held in the last week of this month and all preparations have been made well in advance in this north Kashmir district.
According to District Election Officer Baramulla Dr G N Itoo, there are 20 District Development Council (DDC), 41 Sarpanch and 168 Panch candidates in fray for Phase-I of DDC/Panchayat By-elections for which the polling shall be conducted on 28th of this month.
Accordingly, a total of 21 nominations were received from 2 DDC constituencies out of which 1 candidate withdrew his nomination thereby leaving a total of 20 candidates in fray. Similarly for 22 sarpanch vacant seats, a total of 53 nominations were received out of which 5 candidates withdrew their nominations and 7 candidates have been declared as elected unopposed thereby leaving 41 candidates in fray.
For 370 vacancies of Panch seats in Phase-I, a total of 395 nominations were received out of which 4 nominations were rejected on scrutiny and 36 candidates withdrew their nominations. Also 187 panch candidates have been declared as elected unopposed thereby leaving 168 candidates in fray.
Meanwhile, according to District Panchayat Election Officer (DPEO), Kupwara, Anshul Garg, as many as 34 nomination forms have been received for phase-II of District Development Council (DDC) constituencies' viz. Ramhaal and Reddi Chowkibal till last date for submission of nomination papers on November 16.
These 34 nomination forms include 9 in Ramhaal (PAGD 1 and Independent 8), and 25 in Reddi Chowkibal (PAGD 1; BJP 1; Apni Party 1 and Independent 22) constituencies.
Similarly, according to DPEO, 21 nomination forms have been received for 5 vacant Sarpanch seats and 138 nomination forms have been received for 69 Panch seats in these 2 DDC constituencies.
DPEO also informed that scrutiny of nomination papers of DDC constituencies of Ramhaal and Reddi Chowkibal and vacant seats of Sarpanches and Panches in these constituencies for phase-II was held today at concerned Returning Officers (RO) headquarters.
As per data, out of 193 nomination forms, 12 Panch forms were rejected, while 181 forms were found valid after scrutiny. These valid forms include 34 DDC, 21 Sarpanch and 126 Panches.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature for phase-II is November 19, 2020.
While in Bandipora, 89 nomination papers were received for Ganastan and Nowgam blocks of the district on the last date of filing of nomination papers on 16th November (Monday).
After scrutiny of nomination papers none of the nominations was rejected today for phase 2nd of DDC and Panchayat by-elections.
Meanwhile, a total of 28 nomination papers were received for upcoming phase-II of DDC elections, 15 filed their nomination papers for vacant Sarpanch seats and 46 filed their nomination papers for vacant Panch seats before the Returning Officers.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature for the phase-II is 19th November, 2020 while polling is scheduled to be held on December Ist, 2020.
