Early Times Report

Kulgam, Nov 17: In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) on Tuesday fined Cemtac Cement Factory for selling underweight Cement Bags to the consumers.
District Legal Metrology, Mohd Muzaffer told that they inspected a few cement shops in Qaimoh area Kulgam after receiving a complaint from a consumer.
“We inspected shops and during checking we found the complaint correct. We noticed that Cement Bags were underweight by around 1Kg against every claimed quantity of 50Kg bag. The stock was seized accordingly for violating the Legal Metrology norms,” he said. He said that the manufacturer (Cemtac Cement Factory Khrew Pulwama) was served notice according to the norms and action as per the law was initiated against them. “The Company representatives namely Imtiyaz Ahmad and Gh Mohammad visited the office and accepted the violation and pleaded to compound the Case. They provided the written declaration before undersigned in which they mentioned that the violation will not be repeated in future. The Case was therefore compounded against the payment of RS:20,000/=,” LMD said in a communiqué.
The Legal Metrology Department had also directed the manufacturer to withdraw underweight cement bags from the market for repacking the same as per the declared quantity. “The company representatives admitted that they were facing some technical problems and claimed that they have rectified it however the factory will be inspected in coming days,” District Legal Metrology, Mohd Muzaffer said. He said that he took up the matter with his Head of the department and after his permission the company will be inspected. “I can’t go directly and inspect the factory but in the meantime I have taken up the issue with the department and sought permission for inspecting the factory. The moment I will receive the permission the factory will be checked as the norms,” he assured.
