11/21/2020 11:25:37 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 21: Traffic was on Saturday resumed on the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended on Friday in view of weekly maintenance of the only all weather road linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, the 86-km-long historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was put through after remaining closed on Friday due to fresh snowfall and slippery road condition.
The national highway, linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir was also through for traffic, a traffic police official said on Saturday.
He said traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was suspended on Friday in view of maintenance of the road. The authorities have announced to allow National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) to undertake necessary repair and maintenance work on the highway on every Friday till November end. Even security force vehicles were not being allowed to ply on Friday, he said.
Today traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar only. However, he said, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) carrying passengers will have to cross Nagrota Jammu between 0500 hrs to 1100 hrs and Jakheni Udhampur between 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the deadline, he said.
Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) and security force convoy will also ply from Jammu to Srinagar today, he said adding no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.
Traffic was also resumed on historic Mughal road, being considered alternative to Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended due to snowfall on Thursday evening. Though snow was cleared yesterday but the road was slippery. With further improvement in the road condition after sun came out from behind the clouds, traffic was allowed today, he said adding vehicles had to ply between 1100 hrs till 1600 hrs.
The Srinagar-Leh national highway was also through and vehicles had to ply between 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs.
