Influential cop’ chairs business meetings in Srinagar!

Early times Report

Srinagar, Nov 22: Even as the Police Stations are expected to prioritize improvement of relations with the area inhabitants, a police official posted in Karan Nagar locality here, has been busy holding meetings with businessmen, including those who have allegedly grabbed government land.
For the last six months, the Karan Nagar Police Station has been holding numerous “police public meetings.”
But what observers can perceive is that such meetings were mostly related to interactions with the business community.
In the latest, the said official, whose “transfer is long overdue” held a meeting with the representatives of pharma companies as well.
Some time ago he had held meeting with the businessmen including shopkeepers, accused of showcasing their products on the main road in violation of the norms.
Interestingly, the road leading to the SMHS Hospital, which lies adjacent to the Police Station is often choked as car showrooms running in the area unlawfully showcase their vehicles on the road.
“Some of the road area has been unlawfully handed over the car dealers as if it was their fiefdom,” said a senior official in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation on the condition of anonymity.
He said the concerned police station was unable to coordinate with the SMC to get rid of the roadside encroachments.
The ambulances rushing to the hospital have often complained of slow movement due to unlawful encroachments of the main road by some traders.
One official said that instead of asking the traders to mend their ways, the police official inviting them for “tea parties.”
Despite repeated attempts the said official was not available for comments.
When contacted a senior official defended the police official in question. “He has been doing a great job in Karan Nagar and such meetings are part of police public interactions,” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
