SKUAST-Jammu convenes academic council meet

JAMMU, Nov 25: SKUAST-Jammu today convened the 21st Academic Council meeting under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. J.P. Sharma.
The Vice Chancellor in his address emphasized that teaching is the primary objective of the University for developing the human resource for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as well as for the Nation. He further emphasized that the students are the ambassadors of the University and the university is bound to provide quality education and teaching. He stated that such types of meetings are helpful to frame rules /modification of existing rules for improving quality of education to be imparted to the students under present prevailing conditions of COVID-19 pandemic. He complimented the teaching faculty, students and others for adopting online modes of teaching. The Vice Chancellor instructed to frame/ design the courses keeping in view the New Educational Policy.
In the meeting, several important decisions were taken for the start of new courses viz. Ph.D programme in Agri.-Business Management, Ph.D. programme in Floriculture and Landscaping Architecture and Postgraduate programme in Seed Science and Technology. Besides this, enhancement of 10 percent seats under Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in each programme from academic session 2020-21 and onwards was also approved.
The agenda was presented by Rajesh Talwar, Registrar and Member Secretary of the Academic Council.
The meeting was attended by Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Education; Dr. R.K. Gupta, Director Research; Dr. Deepak Kher, Director Planning & Monitoring; Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Extension; Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean, F.V.Sc & A.H; Dr. S. E. H. Rizvi, Dean, F. B. Sc.; Dr. D. P. Abrol, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and all the Heads of the Divisions of Faculties of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and Basic Sciences. Director Education delivered the vote of thanks.
