Udhampur voters seal fate of eight candidates in first phase of DDC polls

UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: Fate of Eight Candidates Locked in ballot boxes as the polling of the first phase of first-ever elections to the District Development Councils (DDCs) is completed peacefully / successfully. More than 38643 voters decided the fate of over Eight Candidates of different political parties for two District Development constituencies i.e Dudu-Basantgarh and Latti- Marothi . Multi Layered security arrangements were made for the DDC elections. This election is Jammu and Kashmir's first election after the outbreak of coronavirus and this was also the first election in the J&K after the effective abrogation of Article 370 by the central government on August 5, 2019, amid massive security and communication clampdown in the erstwhile state. The election commission J&K has directed all polling booths to follow all norms and guidelines issued for the polling.
After a sluggish start, people are coming out to vote for the first phase of DDC elections.As per trends till 2 pm Grand total percentage 56.86% . Dudu -Basantgarh 50.73% , Latti- Marothi 64.12 %. Guidelines have been issued by the election commission for safe polling amidst the pandemic. Apart from these measures, proper sanitization, wearing of masks, gloves, and other protective gear by polling personnel is a must. The availability of the thermal scanner, hand sanitizer, soap, and water is to be ensured at the polling booth by the officials. The voting starts from 7 am to 2 pm.However, voting for the second and third phase is scheduled to be held 1st of December and 7th of December. The counting of the votes will be held on December 22.
In District Development Council (DDC) elections Udhampur are essentially a fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) , which is an amalgamation of six major regional parties including NC and PDP.

The DDC election and the Panchayat bypolls are being held in eight phases from November 28 to December 19. The counting of votes will be taken on December 22.
