J&K Sports Council’s website defunct

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 29: Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council—the highest body dealing in sports—in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir claiming of having world class infrastructure and resources, is having defunct official websites still showing former Governor Satya Pal Malik as its president and the then Advisor K Vijay Kumar as its vice-president.
However, two official websites of J&K Sports-- ‘http://jksportscouncil.com’ and ‘http://jkssc.nic.in’ are either showing errors or not updated with the latest information related to sports.
Accessed by the news agency, one official website ‘http://jksportscouncil.com’ shows error despite repeated attempts while another ‘http://jkssc.nic.in’—not updated.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chander Murmu, on November 19, 2019, has directed the General Administration Department to advise all departments to update all Government websites with latest information and content week’s time. He had also asked the department to come up with delivery of citizens’ services via mobile application as well to strengthen the public service delivery mechanism. Moreover, the latest information about working of the Sports Council, organisational structure, orders, tender invited and other official records, mandatory to be made public, exists nowhere. “The directives of former LG remained unheeded as the Sports Council—has not yet updated its official website,” said an official. “It is understood that internet services remained snapped in the Valley in August last year in view of abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A and at that time, Darbar Move office was functioning from Srinagar,” sources said. “As normalcy has limped back and all government run departments are operating smoothly even in COVID 19 pandemic since Unlock was announced, but what is wrong with the Sports Council and why the official website is not yet updated, the reason best known to the concerned,” said a player, looking for a notification for sportspersons on the website. “Leave daily happenings, the list of coaches with discipline, brief bio-data, affiliated/recognised associations, official orders, and notifications, tender invited, if any, list of meritorious players, nothing is visible on the website,” he rued.
He said, “Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the President of J&K Sports Council, should direct the department to immediately update the official website with latest information.”
“Recently former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the J&K Sports Council and that should have been made available on the website for its wider circulation with a copy of memorandum for more clarity,” he suggested adding, “the players and coaches were recently handed over the Parshuram Awards and Sher-i-Kashmir Awards in a function that remained a low key affair but, the Sports Council should have played its role by circulating it to media officially, updating it on its Twitter Handle and official website as well and nothing such initiative was taken.”
