| Transporters fleecing passenger in covid-19 in Poonch & Rajouri districts | | |  Rajesh Tandon

Jammu, Nov 30: The transporters of Poonch and Rajouri districts are allegedly fleecing passengers by charging exorbitant fare during Covid-19 pandemic and the transport department has failed to issue revised fare list.
Non release of revised fare list by the transport department has restricted the traffic police for taking action against the passengers carrying transporters. After relaxation given by the government in plying passenger vehicle with guidelines by restricting number of passengers in a vehicle, the transporters have started charging arbitrary fare from passengers, which has created resentment among the people.
“We have got complaints from the public against the transporters for charging excess fare but we are unable to take action as we also don’t know about the exact rate of fare decided by the department after giving relaxation to the commercial vehicles,” a said traffic police officer posted in Poonch. Similar is the situation in Rajouri where passengers particularly those who have to travel Jammu.
DSP traffic Rajouri-Poonch range said that due to absence of official list of fare by the transport department they are facing problem in taking action against the commercial passenger transporters.
