Picture is worth a thousand words

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 30: Picture is worth a thousand words. This was precisely the case on Sunday when a picture reflecting the government apathy and public being taken for a ride went viral on social media with people in hordes questioning how the anarchical mindset continues to rule the roost in the power corridors of Jammu and Kashmir. A picture from a government office is widely being circulated on social media here in which an elderly aggrieved man is trying to make his grievance heard in a government office. He is seen standing with folded hands infront of few middle run government officials. A senior official in the picture is seen relaxing on a luxurious chair with no face mask along with his courtiers, while an elderly man could be seen helplessly standing and narrating his ordeal to the officer.
The picture has taken social media by a storm as people are questioning the anarchic and despotic system of government with a colonial mindset calling shots in otherwise democratic Jammu and Kashmir. “Aren’t the officials seen in the picture availing all the benefits including their salaries from the taxes of that old man who has been made to stand in the office in a sadistic manner. Wasn’t there even an iota of courtesy left in the officials who could have asked the octogenarian to sit on a nearby empty chair and then report his grievance. ‘India ko Britishers say azaadi toh mili, lekin in jaise logoon say kab azaadi mile gi’ (India got

its freedom from the British a long time ago; when will we get freedom from such cold hearted men?,)” asked a social media user.
“We are subsidising their golf, their luxurious accommodations and yet we are made to line up in long queues. The system is in the dire need of an overhaul. Sooner the better,” said another social media user while commenting on the picture.
Earlier this year, as per the reports, the first corona patient was allowed by the government to leave Srinagar Airport without screening. She as per the reports had come from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah and used her VIP influence to go home unchecked from the VIP gate. The lady in question tested positive for COVID-19, leaving the entire administration jolted to the core. The Central Government, then had reprimanded the Jammu and Kashmir government over such a blunder, seeking report over the mismanagement and sorry state of affairs.
People too were seen ridiculing the government over allowing the VIP Raj to continue eating away the system and exposing people to unimaginable dangers. “This time, they have gone too far. How come the officials who were posted with the sole purpose to check the entrants allowed the lady to get away easily and what this VIP gate means after all,” posted one social media user.
Now with the fresh picture coming to fore, there has been a wide scale uproar and voices to end the VIP raj and give the public their rightful due are becoming shriller.
