Educational institutions observe “World AIDS Day”

Jammu, Dec 1: The educational institutions across the Jammu observed World AIDS Day across the Jammu region. Red Ribbon Club and NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli celebrated world AIDS day in which a good number of students and Staff members participated following COVID-19 SOPs. The function was presided over by the College principal, Dr.P.K. Rao. The key speaker on this occasion was Dr. Mudit, MO, SDH Basohli who dealt is depth about all aspects of AIDS including causes, cure and prevention followed by an interactive session with the audience. Earlier, Dr. P.K. Rao, Principal of the college in his welcome address highlighted importance of this day and advised students to spread the awareness about AIDS in their localities.
Red ribbon club of GDC Ramnagar in collaboration with JKACS organized an online session and poster making competition on World AIDS Day on December 1, 2020. Dr. Udhey Bhanu, Principal, GDC Ramnagar in his inaugural address praised efforts of RED ribbon club for organizing the online session and poster competition. The session was attended by around 100 students of the college. Keynote speaker was Dr. Hari Singh (HoD, Zoology). In his lecture he discussed the urgency of ending HIV/AIDS around the world due to COViD19 pandemic.
Red cross and Red Ribbon units of GDC Kalakote observed World AIDS Day on the Theme “Global Solidarity and Shared Responsibility” with the collaboration of J&K AIDS Control Society, Department of Health and Medical Education, Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The World AIDS Day was first marked in 1988 and was also the first ever international day for global health. Through online platform, the Principal of GDC Kalakote Prof.(Dr.) Romesh Kr. Gupta said that “Health is a human right and health should be the prime priority of Investment to achieve universal health coverage. On the world AIDS Day let us try to find out that how to overcome COVID-19 and eliminate AIDS, the World must stand in solidarity and share responsibility.
An event was organised in the premises of Government Medical College, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu here today; by following the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government of India. The Chief Guest of the function was Atal Dulloo (IAS), Financial Commissioner Health & Medical Education Department, J&K who flagged off of a cycle rally simultaneously from Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Rajouri at 7:30 A.M from GMC Jammu followed by the inauguration of the voluntary blood donation camp at Blood Bank GMC Jammu. The cycle rally was organized by J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) in collaboration with Jammu Hill Cyclists, Rotary Club Jammu and Jammu Cyclist. The route of the rally was via Bakshi Nagar, K.C, Jewel Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Satwari and back to GMC Jammu.
NSS Unit of Govt. Degree College Khour organized an online quiz on World AIDS Day. The aim of the quiz was to raise awareness of AIDS caused by the spread of HIV infection. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Hans Raj, Principal GDC Khour and organized by Gurvinder Kour, NSS Programme Officer. About eighty students from various colleges of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir and other states participated in this quiz.
An Inter College Poster making And Slogan writing Competition was held by Red Ribbon Club in GDCMARH On World AIDS DAY 2020 under the supervision and guidance of Principal Prof. Aekta Gupta.The theme of programme was “Ending the HIV/ AIDS epidemic resilience and impact”.The students from various colleges participated and gave a strong message and information through their slogans and colorful posters to end the HIV infection by adopting safe precautions as prevention is the best measure when their is no cure. In Poster making Sahil kumar(sem1)got first position, Karan Singh(1st sem) and Taniya (1st sem) got 2nd position and Arti Devi 1(sem) got 3rd position. Whereas In Slogan writing Parveen (1st sem), Anchal Sharma (3rd sem) and Kajal kumari (1st sem)and Manik kumar from GCET got 1st ,2nd and 3rd position respectively.
]The Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC), Udhampur celebrated World Aids Day. An awareness campaign along with online competitions on essay writing and poster designing was organised. The theme for the 2020 observance was "Ending the HIV AIDS Epidemic: Resilience and Impact." The NCC and NSS volunteers of the college participated in these events. They also made motivational videos stating that citizens and the youth have a collective responsibility towards increasing awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention, which were circulated through social media.
The whole event was conducted under the able guidance of Principal GDC Udhampur, Prof Subhash Chander. Simran, Manisha, and Amit Sharma bagged the first three positions respectively in poster making, while Harshika, Priya and Ruhani bagged the first three positions respectively in essay writing. The event was organized and compiled by Dr Rippy Bawa and Dr Kamaldeep Kaur.
Department of Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu organised an online Webinar to commemmorate World Aids Day under the patronship of Prof. Manoj Dhar, VIce Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu. Dr.Priya Gupta, MD Pathology J&k Health department Udhampur,was the Resource Person for the webinar. The Webinar was chaired by Prof. Geetanjali.A.Rana, Dean faculty of Humanities and Liberal Arts, CLUJ. She stressed on increasing HIV awareness and knowledge, and supporting those living with HIV without any stigma. Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare, CLUJ formally welcomed the guests and exhorted that the theme for World AIDS 2020 observance “Ending HIV/AIDS Edidemic: Resilience; and Impact is an endeavour to increase HIV awareness and knowledge , speak out against HIV stigma and call for an increased response from people world wide to unite in the fight against HIV and also to help people fight the disease.
