12/1/2020 10:50:02 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 1: Only one-way traffic will ply on Srinagar-Jammu and national highway, connecting Union Territory (UT) Ladakh with Kashmir valley on Tuesday while the historic 86-km-long Mughal road remained closed for the past nine days due to accumulation of snow and slippery road condition.
The authorities had to use salt and urea to melt the frozen road at several places, including Zojila pass, Zero point, Meenmarg and India Gate before allowing traffic on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, a traffic police official told UNI on Tuesday.
Today traffic will ply from Srinagar to Ladah only, he said adding Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will have leave Sonamarg between 1100 hrs and 1400 hrs followed by Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs). However, no vehicle will be allowed after cut off timing, he said adding security force vehicles will have to follow same schedule. No vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction, he said.
Drivers were directed to carry anti-skid chain to gain more grip on the slippery road, he said adding traffic movement will remain banned between 1800 hrs to 0900 hrs next morning between Gagangir and Sonamarg on the highway.
Only one way traffic was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar today on the highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. However, LMVs had to cross Nagrota Jammu between 0500 hrs to 1100 hrs and Jakheni Udhampur between 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs, he said adding no vehicle will be allowed after the deadline.
Security force vehicles are also advised to ply from Jammu to Srinagar, he said.
He said the Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed due to accumulation of snow and slippery road condition.
