POONCH, Dec 1: The casual approach of the Poonch Administration can be gauged from the fact that it has been more than six years, a bridge in Digwar area, which was washed away in the 2014 flash floods, has not been constructed till date putting the local residents in great distress.
Sources told Early Times that a steel bridge in Digwar area, which was the only mode to cross over the river, had washed away during flash floods in 2014, which cut off the entire area.
“Due to the absence of the bridge, the local residents had to take a very long route to cross the river. It has been six years since the bridge was washed away but step have been taken by the concerned department to reconstruct it at the earliest,” said social activists PardhanHarchan Singh Khalsa, Dr Sukhwinder Singh and Amit Gupta.
They further said that they have come to know that funds were sanctioned for its construction but never used on it and were spent on some other work depriving the people of this necessary facility. They demanded an investigation from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Early Times correspondent himself visited the area and observed the ground situation. While talking to him, the local residents said that leaders come to ask for votes only during elections and make tall promises but they never fulfill them. “We have to face huge hardships in absence of the bridge but the concerned administration has totally ignored our demand,” they alleged. When contacted the concerned official for his version on this issue, he denied giving a reply. |
