Jammu Municipal Corporation strengthens post 74th Amendment Act

Jammu, Dec 2 :Jammu Municipal Corporation is all set to get more strengthened after the implementation of 74th Amendment Act on ground.
The urban areas of twin capitals of Jammu and Kashmir Union territory will witness a major development after the implementation of the act.
"The devolution of functions, functionaries and resources to the Urban Local Bodies in alignment has been made with mandate of 74th Constitutional Amendment Act by the LG administration," an official here said.
He said that the JMC has been strengthened with devolution of powers to the ULBs, which will bring major reformation and development of the areas falling under JMC and SMC in both the capitals of the Union Territory.
Official sources said that 213 roads falling under the municipal limits of district Jammu having width below 5.50 kms have been transferred to the Jammu Municipal Corporation while 364 roads falling under the municipal limits of district Srinagar having width below 5.50 Kms have been transferred to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Moreover, both the corporations will also be major decision makers in their respective jurisdictions in transferring of Tawi Bridge cum Medical College Division, Jammu to Jammu Municipal Corporation and Roads Division Srinagar to Srinagar Municipal Corporation respectively along with posts.
Besides, transfer of O and M Grants for the year 2020-21 allocated under revenue and capital grants may be considered by the Finance Department from the FY 2021-22 to both the corporations.
Salary grant and Revenue Budget shall he transferred to JMC/SMC by the Finance Department in proportion to respective strength of transferred R and B Divisions in the sectors comprising Tawi Bridge cum Medical College Divisional Jammu, one Executive Engineer, five Assistant Executive Engineers, seven Assistant Engineers, 11 Junior Engineers, one head draftsman, one Assistant Account Officer, four Draftsmen, one Head Assistant, four Senior Assistants, six Junior Assistants, eight Work Supervisors, three drivers, electrician, plumber, operator, (one each), 11 Chowkidars.
