"In India, any people in anywhere in the country can purchase and sell land but it is extremely depressing that Mahajans and Khatris of Union Territory of J&K cannot purchase even one Marla of Agricultural land whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities," Rajiv Mahajan said in statement issued here on Friday. He said all the citizens of the country are treated equally before law irrespective of caste, colour or creed but the government adopts dual policy and gross injustice to and Khatri communities in J&K. He said that Mahajan and Khatri community of J&K always played a key role in various fields in the development of Jammu and Kashmir but it is a matter of strong discrimination that these communities have been kept away from the selling and purchasing agriculture land. He appealed to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to look into the matter seriously and revoke this injustice in the new land laws of the UT otherwise all the members of both the aforesaid communities to start strong agitation in Jammu and Kashmir.
