Is JK Police impenetrable to COVID-19 infection?
Distribute COVID-19 safety kits among poor but not following safety norms themselves
1/6/2021 11:36:55 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 6: Though Jammu and Kashmir police has lost 15 personnel to deadly COVID-19 virus while 3276 police personnel have tested positive but some cops still considered themselves impenetrable force as while distributing COVID-19 safety kits among poor, the senior cops could be seen without following safety protocols or simply wearing face masks.
In the last one fortnight, police officials from a particular district have organized few Civic-Action programmes, in which COVID-19 safety kits were distributed among the poor. One such programme was organized at Government Middle School, one at Government Higher Secondary School.
In these two programmes senior officials of the police were present in which 105 COVID-19 safety kits containing Face-Masks, Sanitizers, Oximeter, inhalers, Thermometer, Soaps, face shields, hand globe and other related items were distributed among the poor and needy families.
Moreover the general public was briefed with regard to prevention/protection from Covid-19 pandemic, while another function was organized recently in which again safety kits were distributed and news of the events were circulated among media houses as well as uploaded on the official facebook page of the police.
However in all these three events, the senior police officers were present but were not themselves following the safety measures. As per photographs available, the senior police officer could be seen giving away safety kits but himself was not wearing the face-mask.
Though the DSP level officers had their face-masks hanging in their necks but in one photograph an Inspector level officer could be seen giving away a safety kit without wearing the face-mask. Apart from wearing face-masks, no physical distancing was found observed by the police officers. Despite violation of all COVID-19 protocols, in the press releases sent by police themselves, it was written that the gesture of police was appreciated by the public.
“If the Police officials as well as police personnel are so careless about the COVID-19 infection then it raises serious question mark over the intention behind such drives organized by the police. Without following COVID-19 protocols and safety measures, if you are organizing safety-kits distribution functions, then these are only for media consumption”, a senior official said, adding that despite repeated appeals from higher ups as well as by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, the government officials were least bothered then what could be expected from general masses.
