SCCU launches ‘warm clothing distribution’ programme
1/7/2021 10:41:34 PM

Early Times Report

Udhampur Jan 7: To provide solace to the needy segment of the society during ongoing winter, Senior Citizens’ Club Udhampur (SCCU) inaugurated its free ‘Warm Clothing Distribution’ programme today and distributed warm clothing to about 150 persons on need base at ‘Sailan Talab Chowk’ Udhampur.
The clothes were donated by the members of the SCCU. On the occasion, president of the Club Mahadeep Singh Jamwal said that urbanites are better placed financially than people from rural area and they have craze for the trendy wearing and they use the wearing as per their liking than their needs.
This way huge unused clothing stock piles up in their homes. To get rid of this stocking sometime these clothes are purchased by street venders by exchange of plastic tubs or buckets and then in return they sell them out to needy (specially people from villages) on exorbitant rate.
The free donation is the actual social work for the needy segment. The Club will carry regularly such distribution programmes in different area. The SCCU have created a bank for collection of such clothes. Jamwal appealed to the society to deposit all sort of wearing especially warm clothes in SCCU clothing bank located at ‘Shiv Nagar’ Udhampur so that their clothing should reach to the needy segment of society. The donors can contact on phone numbers 9419162404, 9419158201, 9419158348, 906013394, and 9419296580 for the needful. Others from Club present were S/sh SK Gandotra, ex-Joint Director Education, Doctor Uma Kant Sharma Retd Army Major (Advisor of the Club), Kuldeep Kumar Ex-SO Education Deptt (Publicity-Secretary) and Treasurer of Club Mohan Singh, a Police Veteran.
