Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 7: Samagra Shiksha in partnership with Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), has distributed 1.5 lakh soaps to different schools of Jammu and Kashmir to support the government's response to COVID-19.
The soaps were distributed in 22,000 schools across J&K, aiming to reach over 1 million children as part of its safe school reopening measures in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Arun Manhas, Project Director Samagra Shiksha said that the department has been on the forefront for the fight against COVID-19 and ensured that the soaps are distributed to all schools across all districts for use of children. He further added that his Directorate has taken the initiative to implement the School Safety Programme which will ensure proper sanitation and hygiene in all schools in mission mode.
Dr. Manhas complimented the HUL for the contribution to Jammu & Kashmir in its fight against COVID-19.
Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director, HUL said, "We firmly believe in the power of hand hygiene to fight coronavirus at the source. Our contribution has enabled us to equip governments in their efforts to curb community transmission of COVID-19, and our products will continue to shield communities at COVID hotspots across the country."
Pertinently Samagra Shiksha has launched comprehensive school safety pilot programme in 50 schools of districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Jammu and Doda under the 'WASH in Schools' programme. The programme aims to teach children about hand hygiene and COVID infection, prevention and control measures.
