Govt health institutions in Rajouri, Poonch encourage patients to conduct tests in private market

RAJESH TANDON
Early Times Report
POONCH, Jan 7: Government health institutions in Rajouri and Poonch districts have allegedly been encouraging patients to conduct various diagnostic tests in the private market for their ulterior interests putting the poor patients at receiving end.
Sources told Early Times that the poor patients who visit health institutions have to face huge difficulty in getting treatment in the hospitals particularly in getting tests done and doctors and other staff compel the patients to get tests done in the private diagnostic laboratories.
"The people of remote villages living near Line of Control (LOC) had to suffer a lot due to frequent ceasefire violation as many people get injured from Pak shelling and during their treatment are asked to conduct tests in the market despite the fact that all health facilities are free in hospitals but they had to get tests done in private," they said.
"There is no check on this malpractice by the doctors from the concerned authorities and the arbitrary rates are charged by the private laboratories," they said. They alleged that the doctors recommend particular laboratories to the patients for conducting tests but due to poverty many of them are unable to pay bills.
When Early Times contacted the concerned official he said that if any complaint is received he would take action.
