Anantnag, Jan 8: The Auditorium building of Anantnag Boys Degree Colleague suffered massive damages on Friday after the roof truss of the building collapsed.
Reports said that the steel truss of the Auditorium building had caved in during wee hours of Friday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, K K Sidha who rushed to the sports for on spot inspection, assured to initiate a probe to find out the reason behind the collapsing of the iconic auditorium.
Preliminary estimates suggested that the buildings damages to a tune of Rupees 2 Cr rupees.
“This was an important asset of South Kashmir and was being used for multiple purposes. This is a major loss as the Government had spent around 6 Cr rupees on building the Auditorium. I will launch an investigation to find why the truss of the building caved in,” DC Anantnag told the media outside the auditorium building.
He also assured to take up the matter with the administrative secretary of the R & B department to evaluate it technically as the project was executed by the department. “There is certainly negligence and we will take exemplary action against those who are found involved,” he added.
R&B officials told Early Times that steel trusses of the building caved in during the night and it will take time to access the damages and to find out the cause of collapsing.
“We may require some time to access the damages and cause of collapsing. All things will be evaluated ranging from technical elevation to going deep into designing. We need to find whether it collapsed because of technical fault or due to sub-standard material or someone played a mischief,” a senior engineer posted at R&B Division Khanabal told Early Times.
He said that so far the Government or R&B department hasn’t initiated a probe, however the district administration might have launched the investigation as the Deputy Commissioner himself visited the site during the day.
The state-of-the-art Auditorium at Government Boys Degree College (GDC) Anantnag was inaugurated by late Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed in 2015. The officials said that the construction of the auditorium had commenced in 2005 and a whopping amount of Rs 5.99 Cr was spent on it.
The 600-seated auditorium is equipped with latest acoustics and audio-visual systems as well as automated curtains, they said.
