Jammu, Jan 8: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Mukesh Singh said that police have been working hard to curb drug menace and terrorist activities in Jammu as a result around six terrorist modules were busted in the last few weeks.
Talking to Early Times in an exclusive interview, the IGP Jammu Mukesh Singh spoke on various issues in maintaining law and order in the region. Terming great success of police in conducting free, fair and peaceful DDC elections, IGP said that it was a great challenge for police to conduct peaceful elections.
“Providing security to the DDC candidates during elections was a great challenge.
Being party based elections, there was an overwhelming public response in the elections.
We provided as much security to the candidates as we could.
Whatever sporadic incidents of law and order reported during these elections were successfully handled and managed as a result elections passed off peacefully in totality,” he said.
He congratulated the winners of DDC elections and assured that all possible help will be provided to them in the process of strengthening democracy. Speaking on the other evils of the society, IGP said that police have played a proactive role in curbing the activities of drug pedlars in different districts of the region. “The recovery of huge quantities of drugs vindicates itself that how much work has been done on curbing this menace,” he added. He further informed that as far as the terrorist activities are concerned, around six terrorist modules were busted in recent few weeks and strict investigations are going on to extract more information. Huge decline has been observed in infiltration activities by the terrorists who cross over the LOC in the past one and half year, he added. “Very little attempts of infiltration were made in the recent past. One or two groups, which had managed to infiltrate this side, were intercepted and now have been neutralised,” he added.
Talking about the security arrangements in view of upcoming Republic Day, IGP Jammu said that every year threats are received from several terrorist outfits but police have made strong security arrangements to foil any bid to disturb the atmosphere. He assured the common masses to remain fearless as all kinds of security apparatus have been activated to counter any attempt.
Lastly, IGP Jammu Mukesh Singh conveyed his New Year wishes to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and assured them the J&K Police is always at the service of the law abiding citizens
