Srinagar, Jan 8: In the wake of bird flu, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has barred the entry of poultry and unprocessed poultry meat in the UT of J&K from Friday, January 8th till 14th of this month.
Following the episode of deaths of crows and other migratory bird in different of states of India -- Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala and others due to the avian influenza, the Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department Navin Kumar Choudary said "In the wake of spread of bird flu in neighbouring states of J&K as a measure of abundant precaution and in view of the declaration of whole J&K as 'controlled area' for bird flu disease, government of UT of J&K imposes complete ban on import of live birds, including poultry and unprocessed poultry meat for any purpose into the union territory of J&K with immediate effect till 14-01-2021." It is pertinent to mention that the carcasses of crows were found from some last days in J&K’s Rajouri which seems to have alerted the administration of UT for taking precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of flu in the erstwhile state of J&K.
However, the likely entry of infected-poultry in the UT in recent days seems very less given the closure of National-Highway which makes out that available poultry here might be devoid of the flu. (KNB)
