Gaddies, Sippies, Kolis continue to be treated shabbily: Harsh
1/9/2021 11:23:10 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 9: "Despite tall assurances of constitution of a Development Board for Gaddies and Sippies on the analogy of 'Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board', the govt had failed to initiate any action in respect thereof.
While the Gaddies and Sippies very well form a part of tribal class and are included in ST category, they continue to be deprived of their right to have a Development-cum-Advisory Board on the pattern of other backward and marginalized classes.
This was stated by Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP chairman while addressing a press conference in Jammu today.
It is shocking that despite repeated promises made with them during 2014 elections, no action whatsoever was taken by the present regime during the past six years to fulfill the aspirations of the said class of persons who were inhabiting the remote belts of District Udhampur, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi and Doda. Similarly the promises made for inclusion of 'Koli' community under ST category were also conveniently forgotten by the BJP regime after its ascendance to power thereby creating huge resentment amongst lacs of people belonging to the said class who had voted heavily in favour of BJP in the last several elections.
Urging upon the Governor to take notice of the genuine grievance of the Koli community, Harsh Dev Singh sought initiation of appropriated steps for inclusion of the said class in ST category. He further apprised the Governor that Deputy Commissioner Kathua vide letter no. DCK/LHS/2014-15/1271-75 dated 11.12.2014; Deputy Commissioner Udhampur vide office no. DDCU/CM-Sectt./ 2014-15/1062 dated 30.05.2014; Deputy Commissioner Doda vide office no. 1106/SQ dated 22.10.2014 and Deputy Commissioner Ramban vide office no. DCR/SQ/346-48 dated 29.06.2015 addressed to Com./Sec Social Welfare Deptt have all recommended the grant of ST status to Koli's and appealed for early action in respect of the same. He said that neglect of Kolis constituted another bizarre act of discrimination against Jammu region.
