Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021: J&K loses first match to Karnataka

Jammu, Jan 10: The Jammu and Kashmir team failed to chase a target of 151 runs against Karnataka on their first match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 tournament on Sunday.
Jammu and Kashmir were bundled out for 107 while chasing the target of 151 runs in a 20 overs. Jammu and Kashmir have won the toss and opted to field KSCA Cricket Ground in Alu. Jammu and Kashmir got their first break on the score of 37 runs, while the second wicket at the score of 44. It was hard-hitting of KL Shrijith (wk) for Karnataka who took his team to the score of 150 runs in 20 overs.
Captain Karnataka Karun Nair, who plays IPL scored 27 runs in 21 balls. For Jammu and Kashmir IPL sensation Abdul Samad failed to make any mark in bowling while giving 12 runs in just one year.
Whereas, Parvaiz Rasool Captain Jammu and Kashmir was the most economical bowler for Jammu and Kashmir as he gave just 18 runs in four overs and took two wickets, while rest of the team took heavy runs in every hour.
Chasing 151 runs seem to be a heavy task for Jammu and Kashmir as the whole team were bundled out for just 107 runs in 18.4 overs with many criticizing the team for a lazy start as J&K lost half of the team at 69 runs.
Abdul Samad was the highest scorer for Jammu and Kashmir. He scored 30 runs in 27 balls, hitting 2 sixes and one boundary, while rest of the players couldn’t score big. For Karnataka, Abhimanyu Mithun and Prasidh Krishna picked seven wickets leading their team to a comprehensive win. Jammu and Kashmir will face Tripura next on 12th January at KSCA Cricket (2) Ground, Alur
Brief scores: Karnataka 150/5 in 20 overs (KL Shrijith 48*, Aniruddha Joshi 29; Parvez Rasool 2-18) beat Jammu and Kashmir 107 in 18.4 overs (Abdul Samad 30; Abhimanyu Mithun 4-24, 3-34) by 43 runs.
