Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 10: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) on Sunday condemned the attack on Sardar Gurdeep Singh Saini, Sarpanch of Gandali panchayat and demanded that PSA be slapped on the attackers.
Speaking to reporters, AJKPC chairman Darshan Singh who was flanked by Devraj Sharma and Sardar Harjinder Singh said that some people carried out a murderous bid on Sardar Gurdeep Singh Saini-- sarpanch of Gandali panchayat and also the state general secretary of AJKPC-- in village Selhar the previous day, when he was returning home in his car.
“He has received serious injuries in the attack,” he said, adding that a complaint has also been lodged in this connection at the police station R S Pura against prime accused Bunty and some of his associates involved in the attack. Strongly condemning the attack, the Panchayat representatives demanded that the government must take strict action against the attackers. “If a Sarpanch is not safe then how can the general public be safe? We demand that the government must provide security to the Panchayat representatives. Also, Public Safety Act should be imposed against those who are guilty in this attack so that such incidents can be controlled in future,” he said.
Singh appealed to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take immediate steps to provide security to the Sarpanches and that those who are attacking the Sarpanches should be given strict punishment.
