Imran Reza asks why NC fielded proxy candidates for DDC polls; BJP slams Gupkar Alliance

Srinagar, Jan 10: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the Gupkar Alliance on Sunday saying that the gang came together for vested interest after Jammu and Kashmir’s Peoples Conference Imran Reza Ansari questioned why National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah fielded proxy candidates against the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) candidates in the recent District Development Council (DDC) election. “Gupkar gang is a power-hungry gang. This coalition was only meant to grab power during the DDC elections. Now the elections are over and people of Jammu and Kashmir bite the dust to the Gupkar gang leaders. Now they are accusing each other and there is blame game among the Gupkar alliance. It is but natural and obvious that they cannot remain together because they have their own vested interest,” a BJP leader said. “This letter reveals that basically this bunch of power-hungry people flock together just to shield themselves from the mischiefs that they did from the past 3-4 decades to prevent themselves from the actions which the government is going to take against the people involved in the Roshni scam and those who looted the money of innocent Kashmiri youth.” The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), led by Farooq Abdullah, won 110 seats of the total 280 constituencies in the maiden DDC elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party with 75 DDC constituencies followed by J&K National Conference with 67 seats. The PDP bagged 27 while the Congress won 26 seats.
