PAGD unity proves to be an illusion
Ansari’s letter to Sajad Lone could prove to be last nail in amalgam’s coffin

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 10: It appears that People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is all set to crumble.
A letter written by the Peoples Conference general secretary, Imran Ansari, to his party chief Sajad Gani Lone has made it clear that constituents of PAGD—an amalgam of Kashmir centric parties—had fielded proxy candidates during the recently held District Development Council (DDC) elections and the so-called unity was nothing but a hoax.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The so-called tall leaders of National Conference and Peoples Conference should sit back and think what made Ansari go public and level such serious allegations against the NC leadership.”
He said that Ansari’s letter to Sajad Lone depict the resentment and anger that’s brewing within the PAGD constituents. “This arrangement is not going to work. Ansari coming out in open and accusing the National Conference of backstabbing other parties could lead to leaders of these Kashmir centric parties fighting it out in open. It appears to be the beginning of the downfall of the PAGD. It seems that the amalgam will collapse even before the DDC boards are formed,” the analyst added.
He said, “The differences between Mehbooba Mufti and Abdullahs (Farooq and his son Omar) have been clearly visible as they have not met each other for a long time. The Abdullahs never came in support of PDP openly and asked its leadership to handle the internal matters of the party at its own level. The developments that have taken place in the recent past are enough to prove that PAGD leaders are at different pages.”
The analyst said, “Imran Ansari’s letter could act as a last nail in the coffin of the PAGD. The National Conference leaders during the past few weeks have made it clear that it’s the largest party in the conglomerate as it has won 68 DDC seats and it wants to head most of the boards. The signals that are emanating indicate that PAGD has hit a dead end.”
