Skill development training of spinning of sheep wool on Ambar Charkha held

JAMMU, Jan 11: Government P.G. College Rajouri, organized an "Exposure cum Demonstration and Skill Development Training Workshop of Spinning on the Ambar Charkha" with the collaboration of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
A number of farmers associated with the sheep and goat breeding from the surrounding villages participated in the training. Students of skill courses of the college also participated and learned the spinning of the sheep wool on the eight spindle Ambar Charkha. Besides the students and farmers, staff of the college also participated including Dr. Anwar Shah, Prof. Asadullah Khan, Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Prof. Abdul Karim, Dr. Taseem Ahmed, Prof. Iqbal Raina, Prof. Asif Lone, Dr. Saleem Wani, Dr. Nawaz Ahmed, Prof. Jahangier Ahmed and Dr. Gulshan Rashid.
Project investigator, Dr. Mohd Tufail in his address to the gathering said that Charkha is a useful device which can be used to spin the sheep wool to yarn and further fabric from this yarn can be used to make all sorts of clothing. Ambar Charkhas which are used as a trial in the beneficiary villages as a part of the research are less time consumable and leads to the production of finest items from its yarn after weaving like shawl for both ladies and gents, blankets of finest quality, muffler and other woollen items as per the Project Investigator.
Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina appreciated the Research work and explained how this skilled work of spinning on Ambar Charkha can change the life of the local population associated with this occupation and focuses on the need of skill training programmes for future graduates and relevance of the education system in the 21stCentury and congratulated the whole team of the Department of Geography for this noble work.
