Dr Rashi Sharma

A diet is an eating plan that focuses on foods that provide a lot of healthful fats , adequate amounts of protein, and very few carbohydrates.
The goal is to get more calories from fat than from carbs. The diet works by depleting the body of its sugar reserves. As a result, it will start to break down fat for energy. This results in the production of molecules called ketones that the body uses for fuel. When the body burns fats , it can also lead to weight loss.
1. SUPPORTS WEIGHT LOSS :- It boost metabolism and reduces appetite. It may reduce hunger stimulating hormones. People following ketogenic diet lost 5IBS more than those following low fat diet after 6 months.
2. IMPROVES ACNE : - Acne has different causes . It may have links to diet and blood sugar. Eating a diet high in processed and refined carbohydrates may alter the balance of gut bacteria and cause blood sugar to rise and falls significantly. Both can adversely affect the skin.
3. REDUCE RISK OF CERTAIN CANCER:- Keto diet helps to prevent and treat certain cancers. Ketogenic diet reduces blood sugar it could also lower the risk of insulin complications. Insulin is a hormone that controls blood sugar that has links to some cancers. Researches indicate that ketogenic diet has benefit in cancer treatment.
4. IMPROVES HEART HEALTH:- One a person follows ketogenic diet it is important that they choose healthful foods. Some evidence shows that eating health fats such as avocados instead of pork rinds which is less healthy can improve heart health. It reduces cholesterol. High levels of cholesterol can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. So it is important to eat healthy fats.
5. PROTECT BRAIN FUNCTION :- Keto diet provides neuro protective benefits. It strengthens and protects the brain and nerve cells . Keto diet may help a person prevent or manage conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
6. REDUCES SEIZURES :- The ratio of fat , protein and carbs in keto diet alters the way the body uses energy . It results in ketosis .
WHAT IS KETOSIS ? It is a metabolic process during which the body uses ketone bodies for fuel. Epilepsy foundation suggests that ketosis can reduce seizures in people with Epilepsy. Specially those who have not responded to other treatment methods.
7. IMPROVES PCOS SYMPTOMS : - It is a hormonal disorder that can lead to excess Male hormones, ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovaries.
A high carb diet can cause adverse effect in people with PCOS such as skin problem or weight gain. Keto diet has beneficial effects for people with hormonal disorder including PCOS and Type 2 Diabetes.
People looking to start the keto diet should seek consultation with doctor and check if they have diabetes, heart disease or kidney disease.
