Early Times Report
POONCH, Jan 12: The illegal encroachment of footpaths as well as roads by shopkeepers in Poonch city has created problems for the pedestrians forcing them to move on the road with the Municipal Council Poonch acting as mute spectator.
Sources told Early Times that on the backside of the Qila market near Bus Stand Poonch district shopkeepers have displayed their merchandise on the footpaths and the reharies installed in front of shops have also created menace, which have occupied the space on the road.
"The major chaotic point in the town can be witnessed from Qila Market to Parade Ground, where pedestrians can't move. The shopkeepers have given the footpath portion in front of their shops on rent to other people to sell their products," they alleged further adding that similar is the condition in Nakhan Wali road.
They further maintained that whenever the issue is reported to the authority of Municipal Council Poonch, they alerted the shopkeepers before conducting any raid. "When the issue was reported to DC Poonch, he issued directions and action was taken accordingly but the effect of action could be seen only for a few days and after that the situation came to its original place," they said.
The road in front of Tehsildar office has been occupied by encroachers. Moreover several senior officials pass through this area on a daily basis yet they ignore the issue due to their vested interests, they alleged. The mismanagement of the MC Poonch doesn't stop here, the streetlights in various areas have been lying defunct since long ago.
When Executive Officer MC Poonch was contacted about the encroachment of the footpaths and roads in the Poonch city, he tried to evade the seriousness of the issue and said that he would do something.
