JAMMU, Jan 14: Promoting Abdul Samad up the order proved fruitful as Jammu and Kashmir defeated Uttar Pradesh by 8 wickets in a Syed Ali Mushtaq T20 tournament here at KSCA Cricket Ground, Alur on Thursday.
It is the second consecutive win for Jammu and Kashmir in the tournament after losing the first match against Karnataka.
Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and opted to bowl and it was the Mujtaba Yousuf who took 3 wickets for the team by just conceding 14 runs in 4 overs. Captain Jammu and Kashmir proved economical however did not have any wicket.
For Uttar Pradesh, Priyam Garg (c) scored highest 35 runs, while others managed to score few runs however they couldn't capitalize. Abdul Samad bowled one over and conceded 14 runs. Uttar Pradesh scored 124 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
Chasing 125 runs, it was all Abdul Samad's show, as he scored 54 runs in 35 balls hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours in his innings and it was the Shubham Khajuria, who along with Samad sealed the game for Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir team chased down the score in 15 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. The win against the Uttar Pradesh has taken J&K to second place in Elite Group A with 8 points in three games. Earlier Jammu and Kashmir lost the first game against the Karnataka.
However, Jammu and Kashmir came back with a win against the Tripura. The J&K team will face Punjab on Saturday, a win there would mean teams chance to qualify for knockouts.
