Govt fails to take cognisance of migrants demands, protest enters 105th day

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 14: Though the dharna launched by a section of displaced people at Jagti township entered 105th day today, the UT Government has shown total reluctance to consider the demands putforth by the protestors.
Even the Government has not bothered to send any representatives to hold talks with the leaders of agitating group. The dharna is supported by Congress party as well as Apni Party as the leaders of two parties have not only issued statements in support of protesting people but PCC chief GA Mir, party general secretary, Raman Bhalla senior leaders joined the protest and urged the Government to settle the demands on war footing.
However the Government has not taken any cognisance of the demands by holding negotiations with the displaced people who are on protest for over 100 days now.
Moreover various Pandit organisations at Jammu and Delhi have openly come in support of demands and urged the Government to settle the long pending issues of Kashmiri migrants. The Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) which have spearheded the present agitation are demanding enhancement of cash relief from Rs 13000 per month to Rs 25,000 besides a job package of 20,000 jobs with 5000 class fourth posts for those displaced youth who could not continue their studies after class 20th and 12th due to poverty. Justifying these demands the leaders of JTC and SKF accused Government of maintaining total silence over the demands despite the fact that during last seven years of BJP rule cash relief was hiked once while there has been three fold hike in prices since then. They also damand that concrete steps be taken for permanent rehabilitation of Pandits at district headquarters of Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag besides compensation to overaged displaced youth. However till date both Union and UT Government have not taken cognisance of the protest.
