RAJOURI, Jan 14: Shocking it may sound but it's a fact that functioning of the Government Medical College and Associated Hospital Rajouri has come under severe criticism with regular death cases of newborn babies. Although there are around 7-8 MD Gynaecologists in the hospital but the death cases have exposed their negligence.
In an incident of hospital management's negligence, a pregnant woman today lost her baby during labour pain. The agitated family members alleged that the GMC Rajouri has virtually turned into a 'butcher house'. "Nobody is honest towards their duty in the hospital, from doctors to Medical Superintendent all are involved in making money and the patients have been left on the mercy of God," they alleged. Many cases of deaths of newborn babies were reported in the recent past in the hospital.
They further alleged that Mother & Child Health (Gynae & Paediatric) Department of Associated Hospital has totally been hijacked by Private Chemist Shops and Clinics, touts can be seen roaming round the clock in the MCH Ward and Gynae OT. "No death case is reported when a pregnant woman goes to a private nursing home for the delivery but it is other way round in GMC Rajouri, the death of newborn babies is a common thing," they alleged.
Not only this, even the benefits promised under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK) Scheme are not provided to the patients, they alleged.
When Early Times contacted the Medical Superintendent GMC Rajouri, he refused to give his comment on the allegation of the aggrieved family and said that he doesn't talk to the media. "I don't give comments to the media as we have appointed a particular doctor for interacting with the media," he added.
But the fact of the matter is that the doctor designated for media interaction is on leave for the last two months due COVID-19.
It is worthwhile to mention here that in order to hide their misdeed and mismanagement, the hospital authority has restricted the entry of media inside the hospital and it has been reported that the hospital has lodged FIR against many media persons for exposing them.
