Police under scanner for ‘drink and dance’ outside Kothi Bagh Police Station
Jail Mein Surang!

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have come under scanner for alleged security lapse, as recently a “drink and dance party” was held outside the Kothi Bagh Police Station here.
Sources said recently a group of car –borne youth stopped their vehicle on the busy Residency Road here, a few yards away from the main gate of the police station.
After stopping the vehicle, they started drinking wine in the public and also danced on the main road.
Sources said the car kept playing music at high pitch as the youth kept dancing with a wine bottle in his hand as one of them kept drinking. Some videos and the pictures of the incident had become viral on the social media.
Sources said the incident is being seen through the “prism of security as a serious lapse” when a high alert is in place in the wake of Republic Day preparedness.
“What if it was a trap from terrorists to attack the busy area? This is a serious lapse on the part of the police to have allowed such a thing to happen in the busy market,” said a retired police official on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that the incident took place at a time when an alert has been sounded in the wake of inputs of possible presence of terrorists in the summer capital.
“This is a high security area frequented by VIPs and thus such a lapse on the part of police is not acceptable,” said the former official.
Sources said at least two senior officers have their offices at the Kothi Bagh police station and that lack of coordination due to alleged misbehavior of one of them cannot be ruled out.
“Postings of such senior police officials must be done on the basis of experience,” said one official on the condition of anonymity.
Despite repeated attempts the concerned officials were not available for comments.
