KISHTWAR, Jan 14: Unruly scenes and protest by the newly elected DDC members, Block Development Council chairpersons and Sarpanchs belonging to National Conference and Congress were witnessed outside the meeting venue of LG’s Advisor Farooq Ahmed Khan. The uproarious scenes broke out after Khan’s meeting ran longer with officials following which he left the venue for lunch without giving an audience to the elected representatives called for the meeting by the District administration.
As per the details available with Early Times, keeping in view the visit of Advisor Farooq Ahmed Khan to Kishtwar, District administration had called the newly elected DDC members, BDC Chairpersons, President, Vice President MC Kishtwar, Sarpanchs and other political activists for a meeting with visiting Advisor at 3 pm today.
As per the official communication, the advisor who was scheduled to hold the meeting with District Officers at 12.30 pm. But the Advisor arrived about one hour late at the venue and his meeting with District and Sectoral officers began at around 2 pm that lasted till 4 pm which infuriated the waiting public representatives.
The situation turned uglier after Khan left the venue at around 4 pm for attending lunch at Dak Bungalow Kishtwar without saying any word to the waiting invitees.
As soon as Khan was about to leave the venue, the Congress and NC representatives held a strong protest against him and the district administration, said eye witnesses.
“This is an assault on the democratic institutions. Why we were called for the meeting. Why we have been kept waiting for such a long time,” said infuriated political activists.
Speaking to Early Times, DDC member Kishtwar Zakir Hussain Butt said that Advisor Khan should have talked to them intimating them about the reason for delay but instead he left the venue. He said that we have been elected by the people and insulting the public institutions is aimed at undermining the democratically elected public representatives.
“Is this the way to treat us? They promised us to empower us. Is this the empowerment which the government wants,” said Saima Shabir, DDC member Mughal Maidan.
She said that the government and administration should take them seriously, adding that otherwise people who voted for them will come on roads.
However, DDC members and BDC Chairperson belonging to the BJP and some social as well as political activists met the Advisor Farooq Khan and raised various public important issues.
Khan assured them that all the issues and concerns raised by them will be looked into.
After the protest, some media persons who were present at the meeting were barred from attending the public meeting.
