5-days Youth Sport Climbing Training Camp organized

JAMMU, Jan 15: 5-days Youth Sport Climbing Training Camp being organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee from 11th to 15th January to popularize the game among the masses and to identify the talent at the grass root level concluded at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds ICSE School campus, Bantalab, here today. The camp which was inaugurated on 11th January, 2021 by former MLA Ashwani Sharma has been sponsored by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha, Jammu who is also advisor of Tawi Trekkers J&K was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function who witnessed the demonstration of lead and speed climbing by international climbers Shivani Charak and Arun Deep Singh. He interacted with the trainees and showed keen interest to know about the finer points of the game learnt by the trainees. While congratulating the association for producing national champions and international medalists, he assured the organisers all possible help for the promotion of the game.
On the occasion the chief guest Prof. Lalit Magotra and Guest of Honour Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu were presented mementoes by General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K Shawetica Khajuria.
The training camp in which about 29 local persons including 9 girls in the age group of 15 to 29 years, participated was organized under the overall supervision of Shawetica Khajuria, General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K. Abhimanyu Sherpa, a pioneer sport climber of J&K headed the technical team which included International climbers Shivani Charak and Arun Deep Singh. Sonam Sidharth, Sakshi Magotra, Vishali Sharma and Ajay Deep Singh formed the panel of judges, route setters and belayers. These officials were, however, ably assisted by some active sport climbers of the Association.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu, Ram Khajuria, Senior Vice President, Sumit Khajuria, Vice President of the Association, Arti Sharma, Principal of Apple Kids Bantalab, Narinder Singh, a senior mountaineer, Mrigank Kaushal and Seema Sharma, Director of the host school.
