Krishi Vigyan Kendra trains farm women on organic vegetables

Reasi, Jan 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) began vocational training programme on “Entrepreneurship development in organic vegetables growing” here today at Chaiter village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by number of women farmers of the area.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.SK Gupta. All the SOPs under COVID-19 were strictly followed while conducting the programme. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi in the introductory session explained about the scientific organic vegetables growing and urged the participants for the commercial organic vegetable by which they can generate more income and employment in the area.
He guided the participants about the critical inputs used in the organic farming and highlighted the use of biofertilisers, green manuring, neem cake and vermicompost in organic vegetables growing. While interacting with the participants he said that the hilly areas have immense potential for organic vegetables growing and farmers can enhance their income by growing the organic vegetables.
He emphasized on the quality seeds of vegetables which can give the higher yields. He stressed on the use of organic maures, biopesticides and biofertilizers in the soil and added that focus should be given on vermicomposting. He also guided them to make the low cost vermicompost units by which the nutritional requirements of the soil can be mitigated. The scientist elaborated on vegetables processing and suggested the women farmers they can earn more money by the value addition of vegetables. During the training programme many queries were raised by the participants which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientist. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal.
