Early Times Report

Anantnag, Jan 15: The mismanagement at the Maternity and Child Care Hospital-the associated hospital of Government Medical College Anantnag-can gauged from the fact that two ambulances out of four and around twenty (20) AC’s, installed a few years ago, continue to remain dysfunctional.
According to official reports, the Anantnag Maternity hospital has four ambulances however two out these four ambulances are dysfunctional from the last three months. “102 Ambulance bearing registration number JK03G-0177 is out of order from the last three month. This ambulance was being used to pick and drop the pregnant ladies free of cost post delivery at hospital. Now since this ambulance is out of order poor families have to hire vehicles,” an official said, adding that the higher authorities at GMC Anantnag were deliberately ignoring the issue.
He revealed that another ambulance bearing registration number JK01AF-5813 has also developed some technical snag and this vehicle is also not being overhauled.
“A few days earlier, the authorities at MCH Anantnag handed over one ambulance to Sub-district Hospital Kokernag and this way the hospital has now only one ambulance which is purely being used to ferry the patients,” he added.
Officials said around two dozen AC’s; installed a few years ago in Hospital, have too gone dysfunctional last year. “The AC’s are out of order from the last six months and again GMC authorities didn’t address the issue despite the fact it was brought into their notice,” he said.
In absence of AC’s and proper heating arrangements, the GMC Anantnag authorities are using gas heaters which pose a serious threat to the lives of patients, attendants and those including doctors who work in the hospital.
Medical Superintendent MCH Anantnag Mir Ji Anrdabi admitted that ambulances and AC’s are out of order and for repairing them they have sent requisitions to GMC Anantnag.
“We have requested them to provide us fresh AC’s and ambulances,” he said, adding they have also approached a few local mechanics for repairing gadgets.
