Save Patnitop
1/18/2021 10:37:29 PM
Hotels violating pollution norms at Patnitop is a cause of concern. No one can be allowed to damage the fragile environment of the famous health resort.
There are complaints that the hotels at Pantitop are using under capacity Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) and have ruined the environment. The Pollution Control Board (PCB) needs to take a note of the alleged violations and act against the erring hoteliers.
One fails to understand that how can the hotels operate without following the proper rules and regulations as environment is the biggest concern. The hoteliers at Patnitop should act responsibly rather than just running after the money. They have to ensure that they take proper care of the environment. It's unfortunate that sewerage water is going into forest land and many hotels have utilized 100% space for constructing huge buildings. They not keeping any provision for sokage pits within the hotel premises needs to be looked into.
It's the job of the PCB to ensure that the hotels and other commercial buildings don't violate the pollution norms. The PCB officials apparently are aware about the hoteliers who despite being provided enough opportunities have not put the system in place. It appears that these hoteliers believe that they are invincible and no one can touch them. But they need to be reminded that J&K has turned into a union territory and in the new setup such violations are not permitted.
There are allegations that a few officials of the PCB are allowing these hoteliers to operate without following the norms for the reasons best known to them. If it's true, then these officials can end up in a big mess as the J&K administration has been taking a serious note of employees not discharging their duties sincerely. By allowing these hoteliers to operate the PCB officials are playing with their jobs.
The government should a probe to look into the allegations of these hotels operating in violation of norms. If the complaints are found true, then the operations of these hotels should be suspended till they complete the requisite formalities. The PCB officials, who have been entrusted with the job to ensure that violators are punished should be pulled up for closing their eyes.
The beauty of Patnitop lies in its environment and no one can be allowed to ruin it. Turning a blind eye is no solution. The health resort is the pride of Jammu and it needs to be protected at any cost.
