Lawyers Action Committee delegation calls on Dr Farooq Abdullah

JAMMU, Jan 19: In furtherance of its decision to meet all political parties and social organizations, a delegation of Lawyers Action Committee met National Conference president and former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah at his Jammu residence and submitted him a memorandum regarding the issues of shifting of Registration work from judicial to revenue officers, closure of consumer courts, closure of forums under Human Rights Act, RTI Act, Accountability Act etc. The delegation comprised H.C. Jalmeria (convener of Action Committee), AK Sawhney (former Bar president), JA Kazmi (Former Bar Vice president), Rajinder Kumar Chanyal, Meharban Singh, Kunal Singh Chib, Gourab Sharma and Warris Gill.
Dr Farooq Abdullah assured the Lawyers delegation that he and his party fully supported the issues raised by the agitating lawyers and would take up the matter with the Union Law Minister and the LG of J&K. His party leaders, Devinder Singh Rana and Rattan Lal Gupta were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the agitation of Lawyers practicing in Jammu wing of J&K High Court and the Subordinate Courts completed 96 days today on 8 points demand charter including opening of High Court and Subordinate Courts for physical hearing and removing the restrictions on the entry of lawyers and public in the courts, besides other demands, the Lawyers continued their dharna in the Janipura Court area Jammu today. The charter of demands projected by the lawyers include opening of all courts for physical entry to lawyers and public, resume physical hearing, acceptance of hard copies of cases, opening the locked Bar Rooms of lawyers, provision of stamp papers and tickets within court premises through stamp vendors, immediate opening of Consumer Courts, shifting back Registry of Documents to Judicial Officers, withdrawing contempt initiated against the lawyers and holding immediate election to the J&K Bar Council. Today’s protest dharna was joined by advocates JA Kazmi(former vice president Jammu Bar), H.C. Jalmeria (Convener of Action Committee), OP Sharma, Chander Mohan Sharma, CS Gupta(Former Secretary Jammu Bar), Vinod Abrol, BR Chandan, BR Sharma (Former Vice President Jammu Bar), Rajinder Kumar Chanyal, Sabodh Singh Jamwal and others.
