VC SKUAST-Jammu reviews monthly progress of faculties

JAMMU, Jan 19: Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, today reviewed the monthly progress of functioning of various Divisions of Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, developmental works being carried out in the both the campuses and different KVKs, research projects of research stations of the farm university and functioning of constituent units viz., Farming System Research, Mega-Seed, Fisheries, Advanced Centre for Horticulture Research (ACHR) etc.
Professor Sharma stressed upon concerned to expedite the process of establishment of Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED), fish hatchery and fish seed production unit and strengthening of sports facilities for the students.
He further took stock of the status of budget utilization under different components, furnishing of International Trikuta Guest House, creation and modernization of research farms, cold storage and seed storage facilities at Chatha, farm mechanization, establishment of Integrated Farming Systems at different KVK’s. Prof. Sharma advised scientists of the University to focus on value addition with special reference to vegetables, fruits and floriculture and quality improvement of crops and commodities.
He asked researchers to work in collaboration with development departments for timely diffusion and adoption of improved technology in the farmers’ fields. He also advised the scientists to prioritize research programmes based on the needs, interests and constraints of the farmers.
At the outset Dr. Deepak Kher, Director Planning and Monitoring, SKUAST-Jammu welcomed Vice Chancellor, Statutory Officers, Head of Divisions, Head of KVKs and Research Stations and also put forth the various issues to be taken up for the effective working and utilization of allotted budget. Prof. Kher also briefed the house about the achievements and activities undertaken during December 2020. Meeting was attended by all statutory officers, Heads of different Divisions, KVKs, Research Stations, Principal Investigators (PIs) of various Research and Adhoc projects.
