Mehbooba's move to avenge humiliation backfires

early times report
jammu, Jan 19: Attempt of Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti to put up an united front in Kashmir to take on New Delhi has proved to be a failed experiment.
According to the analysts, Peoples Conference, pulling out from the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration-an amalgam of Kashmir centric parties- is a big setback for Mehbooba as she had left no stone unturned to pit Kashmir against Jammu. "The PAGD was formed to fight for the so-called bigger cause but the so-called unity stands punctured. The PC pulled out from the alliance after the National Conference didn't respond to its allegations about its leaders fielding proxy candidates in the recently held DDC polls," an analyst told Early Times.
The PAGD was formed soon after Mehbooba was released from detention last year. "Mehbooba in fact compelled the Kashmir centric leaders to join hands as she wanted to avenge the humiliation she had suffered after BJP pulled out from the PDP led coalition government in J&K in 2018. National Conference from the very first day was unwilling to join the amalgam but Mehbooba convinced Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah to lead the united front. She tried to create a divide between Kashmir and Jammu by floating a front that could keep the Jammu leaders away from the power. Mehbooba's entire focus was on how to get the power back. The so-called fight for a bigger cause was nothing but an illusion aimed at hoodwinking the people. All Kashmir centric leaders, including Mehbooba, are aware of the fact that there is no question of J&K getting its special status back."
"Mehbooba's attempt to keep Jammu based leaders at bay has failed miserably. The PC has pulled out from PAGD and NC also seems least interested in carrying on with the alliance. The party leadership has made it clear that it wants to head most of the DDC boards as the party has won more than 65 DDC constituencies. Till date the NC has not approached the PDP to work out an arrangement about heading the DDC boards. We may see many more things happening in coming days. It's matter of time before PAGD crumbles under its own weight and Mehbooba will be left alone again," the observer said.
