Storage capacity increased without requirement by spending huge amount | JaKeGA fails to make optimal utilization of State Data Centre | | EARLY TIMES REPORT jammu, Jan 20: Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA) has virtually failed to make optimal utilization of State Data Center and spent huge amounts on extending its storage capacity despite no requirement. Sources told Early Times that the State Data Centre (SDC) project was sanctioned in 2009 at an estimated cost of Rs 37 crore and was to be implemented by the Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency over a period of five years. "Government of India had released funds of Rs 12 crore during 2009-10 to 2014-15, against which an expenditure of Rs 10 crore was incurred and remaining Rs 2 crore under this project remained unspent," they said. They further maintained that interestingly the State Data Center could not be utilized optimally despite having a capacity of 40 terabyte (TB) as only 3 TB is being used. Interestingly despite utilization of only 8% of its total capacity, the storage capacity was further augmented in 2016 to 102 TB without immediate requirement, which has resulted in an unnecessary expenditure of Rs 60 lakhs. Although there were clear guidelines of Department of Electronics and Information Technology to set up Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan but, Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency had not taken any initiative for Disaster Recovery Plan, they informed. They further maintained that though a data replicator was procured in 2015 but the same was not installed. Pertinently, the project was executed under the National e-Governance Plan which was approved by the Government of India to make all Government services accessible to the common people in their locality through common service delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services at affordable costs. |
