JKPCC lobbies to reinstate tainted babu | Officials seek Raj Bhawan's intervention | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Jan 20: Some officials in the Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) are lobbying to reinstate a "tainted" officer who has numerous cases of corruption and other irregularities registered against him. Sources said some officials in the JKPCC are "trying their best to get their favorite", who was holding the charge of Deputy General Manager, reinstated. Sources said following registration of multiple FIRs and other cases, the allegedly tainted official was placed under "mere attachment." Official documents reveal that the officer has been accused of numerous corrupt practices which led the JKPCC to losses worth crores and in some of the cases the concerned didn't release payment for the corporation due to use of substandard or improper material in the construction of government buildings as executed by him. Sources said despite registration of cases, initially the official working as DGM was not even being touch by his superiors owing to the "influence he enjoys in the corridors of power." But after Manoj Sinha assumed charge as the Lieutenant Governor and declared a zero tolerance against corruption, sources said some of the officials at the JKPCC who were shielding their "favorite" got unnerved and "attached him" as a "symbolic formality." Sources said there was "favoritism" even in the attachment of the official. "Under norms any official against whom FIR is registered is supposed to be placed an under immediate suspension but in his case, he was only attached lest his service record gets serious remarks. This was done deliberately to be soft on him and shield him for reasons best known to his supporters," said some officials at the JKPCC on the condition of anonymity. Sources said as of now the DGM is again trying to get reinstated to get control of some projects under execution by the JKPCC. "He looks hungry and thus wants to get reinstated though actually government should take back his salary to recover undue loses he put the government," said the officials. Despite repeated attempts the DGM was not available for comments. Meanwhile the JKPCC employees have appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter and get serious action initiated against the official for having put the corporation to undue loss. "We are without salary for months and it is because of the officials like him who must be made accountable," said the delegation of employees. |
