After Sajjad Lone's decision, Mehbooba under pressure to dump Gupkar Alliance | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT jammu, Jan 20: After Peoples' Conference dumped the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is now facing pressure from the 'dedicated' party leaders to come out of the conglomeration to 'protect' the party. Reliable sources told the Early Times that much before Sajjad Lone's decision to desert PAGD, a group within PDP was mounting pressure on Mehbooba Mufti to quit the alliance but she was adamant to remain in the PAGD. "National Conference has completely dominated the PAGD and all other constituents are facing sidelined due to domination of NC '', a PDP leader told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity. "NC and PDP are the two competitors in the politics of Kashmir Valley so alliance between two rivals is illogical", he argued and revealed that some leaders have already asked the party president to review her decision to remain in the Alliance. Sources said after Peoples' Conference's decision PDP president was not under intense pressure to quit the alliance because the party was the worst sufferer in the recently held DDCs elections due to proxy candidates fielded by NC in many areas. Mehbooba has recently avoided direct reply on contesting Assembly elections under the banner of PAGD. In an interview with a news channel she was non-committal to contest elections as constituent of PAGD When asked, "Will the PAGD parties fight assembly elections together as and when they are held? Are the parties willing to give up their identities and merge?", she gave a confusing reply. "We will cross that bridge when we come to it. In the history of J&K no election has been a solution to the Kashmir problem. At the cost of repeating myself, PAGD was created for a larger purpose", she replied. |
