Warwan shivers at -17 degree, Marwah at -13, no respite from cold for next one week

Jammu, Jan 21: The inaccessible areas of Warwan and Marwah in Kishtwar District having the population of around 35,000 souls are shivering in -17 and -13 degree minimum temperature and it is further likely to dip in coming next week.
As per the details available with Early Times, the whole Warwan valley having the population of around 15000 souls is under heavy snow cover and the poor people living in this area are facing lot of problems in absence of roads, electricity and communication beside are feeling the brunt of cold weather.
Speaking to Early Times political and social activist Muzaffer Ahmed Lone said the people living in areas like Margi, Sukhnie, Rikanwas and other areas of Warwan had to travel 12-15 kilometers on foot in lofty snow covered peaks to reach Tehsil Headquarter Inshan to catch the chopper service for Kishtwar.
He said that it took them several hours to reach Inshan and when the chopper didn’t come or they didn’t find the seat due to heavy rush— many of the people turn disappointed.
Lone said that many people instead of going back to home prefer to continue its journey through Margan top situated at an altitude of 10500 feet above sea level added that people risk their lives to reach Matigawran on Anantnag side after covering 50 kilometers travelling in snow to catch the vehicle for onward journey as per the need. He said that for vaccination of the children, parents need to travel long distance to reach the health center for vaccination.
He said that there is immediate need for start of additional chopper facility for Upper Warwan areas that are far away from the Inshan. He said that the life of the people in Warwan mostly remain dependent on livestock and called for providing necessary help to the locals in this regard for treating ill animals.
