Rajouri, Jan 22: The blacktopping of Rajouri Pathanmora to Karian road has become a live example of poor functioning of Public Works (Road and Building) Department as the same has started crumbling due to substandard material used after one month.
Sources told Early Times that the after lot of efforts put by the local residents, the road from Rajouri Pathanmora to Karian road, which was three kilometers in length, was blacktopped first time after 15 years of long wait, but shockingly the road started crumbling within one month exposing the department of using substandard material.
The ET reporter had firsthand experience by visiting the road stretch and found that gross violation has been done in blacktopping. The locals further said that although the road caters to the huge population residing in nearby villages, it was in total pathetic condition before blacktopping.
The locals had to face huge difficulty to pass through this stretch particularly to carry the patients due to huge potholes. The situation used to become worse during the rainy season making it almost impossible to pass through roads.
“It is shocking that the road has broken within a month of blacktopping despite the fact that no heavy vehicles ply on this road. This exposes the working of PWD which passed the blacktopping work,” the locals alleged. They alleged that there is involvement of officials of PWD Rajouri under whose supervision the blacktopping work was executed.
Superintending Engineer PWD (R&B) Rajouri, Shahid Lalif Haroon, when contacted, expressed shock on seeing the photographs of blacktopping work sent by the Early Times reporter and said that it seems that no blacktopping work has been done here. He assured that he would seek a report from concerned AEE and further action will be taken after once the inquiry is completed.
