According to reports, a team of the Anti-Corruption Bureau visited the office of Assistant Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Anantnag on Thursday sought the details related to procurements made by the department for different Quarantine Centers.
“Yes a team of ACB visited our office and sought details related to procurements. They also met some officers who were supervising different Quarantine Centers in Anantnag and apparently recorded their statements,” an officer told Early Times, however wished not to be named.
He disclosed that the Anti-Corruption Bureau team sought the details related to the number of inmates who were provided free meals during their stay in COVID-19 Quarantine Centers.
Important to mention, Early Times, last year in the month of June published a report titled ‘Food Department procures grocery items worth lakhs on MRP’
According to reports, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district had procured grocery items for Quarantine centers at Maximum Retail Price (MRP) instead of wholesale rates.
They also claimed that the department benefited a single general grocery store owner and had released lakhs of rupees to him. They also revealed that the department didn’t float any tenders for procurement of items and also has shown the number of inmates’ high contrary to official figures.
