early times report
jammu, Jan 22: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is completely isolated in the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) as chairman of the amalgam Dr Farooq Abdullah has joined the Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) deputed by the Union Government at Srinagar.
While Sajjad Lone of Peoples' Conference has already quitted the Gupkar Alliance now Dr Abdullah has also started participation in the activities initiated by the BJP led NDA government at the Centre.
At a time when Mehbooba Mufti is using social media to attack the Union Government on national and international issues, Farooq Abdullah has shown some flexibility to improve relations with the Centre.
Reliable sources said that before the arrival of the PSC at Srinagar, Mehbooba Mufti was trying to persuade constituents of PAGD to boycott the visiting committee to give a message of unity. "Instead of following suggestions of Mehbooba Mufti to take confrontation with Union Government, Dr Farooq Abdullah, being a Member of Parliament, preferred to visit the visiting delegation to send olive branch to the Centre", sources said and added that meeting of Dr Abdullah with PSC was another setback to the Gupkar Alliance.
PSC on Transport, Tourism and Culture met various politicians and stakeholders to review and examine the status of highways and roads, potential and promotion of the tourism sector and preservation of archaeological and heritage sites in J&K on Thursday at Srinagar.
The PSC is headed by Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha TG Venkatesh. Being a Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah also attended the meeting.
T G Venkatesh said that the Modi government was going to invest millions of rupees here. "Our basic mandate is to know about the problems that people are facing here. We met Farooq Abdullah and also talked to him", he added.
Although Dr Abdullah availed this opportunity to expose tall claims of the development in J&K, his meeting with PSC is an indication that NC is not ready to take unnecessary confrontation with the Centre.
As per media reports Farooq Abdullah during his meeting alleged that nothing has been done for the development of J&K and only baseless claims are being made by the Government. He wanted to know what happened to nine power projects proposed by him for J&K and Airport as all these projects are at standstill.
