Fresh snowfall disrupts normal life, electricity off in various border area of north Kashmir

BARAMULLA, Jan 23: Normal life came to a grinding halt on Saturday after fresh spells of snowfall hit Kashmir valley, thus disrupting power supply, road connectivity and drinking water supply and other essential services in north Kashmir. Reports said that due to fresh snowfall there are scores of villages in Uri area that includes Churanda, Batgrah and Hatlanga are still closed. For the last fifteen days the snow has not been cleared from the roads in these border areas due to which people are suffering badly, said local residents of Charunda.
Now due to fresh snowfall, many roads and power supply also got affected in many villages like Garkote, Nambla and Balkote in Sub Division Uri.
Locals from Dudran Boniyar have complained that their area is without electricity from the last few days, the inhabitants of these areas have requested the district administration and other concerned agencies to clear the roads and restore electricity on a war footing basis so the people of the sub Division Uri will not suffer more.
Here sources informed that a huge fire that broke out engulfed a two storied building in Mir Mohalla of Pehlipora Boniyar on Saturday morning.
The house of Mohammad Hayat Mir of Mir Mohalla got completely damaged, fortunately gas cylinder's were immediately taken out of the building, otherwise there would have been great damage to the whole Mir Mohalla in Pehlipora, adding locals doused the flames who came to rescue there.
Sources said that roughly around Rs 5 lakh worth of goods were burnt. The reason behind the fire was not immediately ascertained.
It is also learnt that the security forces including Army, CRPF and BSF at various places helped patients to reach hospital. In the Boniyar area of Baramulla district, timely help by the BSF troops saved the lives of passengers of a vehicle that met with an accident. Over three persons sustained injuries in that accident.
Sources from Kupwara informed that, after fresh snowfall at Sadna top, the authorities on Saturday closed Kupwara-Tanghdar road temporarily for vehicular movement.
Sadhna top has received about 2 feet of fresh snow since yesterday evening, due to which road has become slippery for vehicular movement.
